Lichen Walk – Sunday 7th December

Lichen walk: Air Pollution indicators

Sunday 7th December

1-2:00pm

Maryhill Park, meet at the Maryhill Road Gate at 1pm, G20 0AB

Come and learn what lichens can tell us about the air quality in your local park. Join OPAL as we walk around Maryhill Park looking for lichens and spotting some of the special species which indicate how much pollution is in the air. Find out if the air in Maryhill Park is clean and clear or whether it suffers from pollution from car exhausts. On our walk we will learn to identify some of the indicator lichens and learn how to complete an OPAL air survey, www.opalexplorenature.org/airsurvey .

Participants will each receive a Air Quality survey pack to take away.

Please dress appropriately for our glorious Scottish winter weather!

For more information or to sign up for the walk email joanne.dempster@glasgowsciencecentre.org or call 0141 420 5010 (ext 270). You can also just turn up on the day!

Friends of Maryhill Park: AGM Tuesday 19th August

Hello Friends!

It’s that time of year again… After a long summer break it is time for the Friends’ AGM. This will be held at 7pm, Tuesday 19th August, Community Room, ASDA Summerston.

Due to various circumstances we are really going to need some people to step up and be office bearers, so have a think about if you would be able to commit to this.

The minutes of the last meeting can be viewed here.

Friends of Maryhill Park: Meeting – Tuesday 25th March 7pm

Our next meeting will be back at ASDA in Summerston at 7pm on Tuesday 25 March. Agenda and previous minutes are attached.

You’ll have noticed that work on the park has now started, and we’ll have an update on progress at the meeting. In connection with that Wayne Travis of LES has proposed plug planting involving FOMP on a couple of days:

Monday 12th May, Tuesday 13th may OR Monday 19th May, Tuesday 20th May. That’s on the agenda for discussion.

Friends of Maryhill Park: Meeting 28th January 7pm, Maryhill Burgh Halls

The next meeting of the Friends of Maryhill Park will be at 7pm on Tuesday 28 January, but for a change we will be meeting in the Garden room of Maryhill Burgh Hall.

The agenda can be found below, along with a link to view or download minutes of the last meeting.
This meeting will be a little different from others, because we’ll taking a long view of what we want for our park, which will feed into the evolving Park Plan document started by Rosie:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RJITntQckb–ryTpX9_Pmd3YVKPTZpjXt_AXxggsxCU/edit?usp=sharing

It’s best viewed online as it will change as people make comments to it – which you can add yourself without having to log in. We do not want to exclude anyone who’s not comfortable with the web, so do let me know if you’d like to see it in an alternative format.

Please have your say on what you want for your park – it will affect what gets done if a good number of us gets behind an idea. To give a few examples: you can see all the hard work done by volunteers tidying up the park; Yvonne at Glasgow Life has supported us in getting the tennis courts playable again; and, as per Wayne’s presentation at the Oct meeting, very soon you will see works start around the play park area in response to feedback FoMP has given Glasgow city council. More details on upcoming works will be given at the meeting.
